In 2023, on the unceded land of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) First Nation, a diverse mix of participants from academia, healthcare, engineering, and even high school came together to confront the complex challenges of our rapidly changing climate head-on. Through hands-on workshops, thought-provoking panels, and a special nature activity led by Finn Kopf, attendees explored the crucial role of youth leadership in making a tangible difference.

Youth Leadership for Global Health Equity in an Era of Climate Crisis

In 2021, in three phases, a diverse group of representatives from institutions across British Columbia convened to plan the third BCCI colloquium to explore how BCCI could advance equitable futures amidst the converging crises of climate change and the COVID-19 pandemic. With a focus on practice, pedagogy, and applied learning, the team emphasized collaboration, humility, and creativity in addressing these collective challenges.

In 2019, on the unceded land of the Lək̓ʷəŋən and W̱SÁNEĆ Peoples, BCCI 2 provided participants offered participants a unique platform to engage with the concept of planetary health. This holistic approach, grounded in a systems perspective, aimed to address the interconnectedness between human well-being and the health of our planet. Through workshops, discussions, and hands-on activities, attendees deepened their understanding of the CCGHR Principles of Global Health Research and gained practical experience in applying these principles to their work.

Equity-Centred Practices for Connecting Knowledge with Action

In 2017, on the unceded land of the Syilx Okanagan Nation, the BCCI aimed to equip emerging global health researchers with the tools and knowledge needed to integrate equity-centered practices into their work using the principles outlined in the CCGHR's Gathering Perspectives project. The overarching theme was guided by the six principles of authentic partnering, inclusion, shared benefits, commitment to the future, responsiveness to causes of inequities, and humility, as outlined by the CCGHR.
